In the whirlwind of schedules, planning, and Sunday-morning surprises, gratitude can easily slip to the bottom of a ministry leader’s to-do list. Yet pausing to notice God’s gifts—right in the middle of the beautiful chaos—can refresh your heart and reshape your perspective. As you serve the next generation with faithfulness and love, here are seven things worth giving thanks for today.
1. The Privilege of Planting Seeds
Not everyone gets a front-row seat to the spiritual formation of children. You do. Every lesson taught, prayer prayed, and small moment of encouragement becomes a seed God can grow in His perfect timing. Whether you see the fruit right away or years down the road, you get to participate in God’s redemptive work in young hearts.
2. The Joy and Honesty of Kids
Kids bring an authenticity to faith that reminds us what Jesus meant when He said to come to Him like a child. Their wonder, their unfiltered questions, their eagerness to learn—these are gifts that lift our spirits. Even their silliness and unexpected comments can be holy reminders not to take ourselves too seriously. Ministry is rarely dull when you’re surrounded by little ones who see the world with fresh eyes.
3. Faithful Volunteers Who Show Up
Whether you have a full roster or you’re praying for more help, the volunteers currently serving alongside you deserve deep gratitude. They choose to invest their time, energy, and hearts into discipling kids. Their faithfulness—showing up week after week, preparing materials, praying for kids—helps carry the ministry in ways you could never do alone.
4. Supportive Families
Behind every child is a family navigating real joys and real challenges. Families who partner with you, ask questions, engage with resources, or simply say “thank you” contribute more than they know. Their trust in you is a sacred responsibility and a gift. Be grateful for every parent who chooses to invest spiritually in their child—and invites you to join that journey.
5. Moments of Holy Impact
They don’t always come on schedule, but they come: a child asking to pray for a friend, a small group conversation that goes deeper than planned, a volunteer sharing how serving has grown their faith. These are holy moments—glimpses that God is moving. Treasure them. Write them down. Let them remind you why your calling matters.
6. God’s Provision in Every Season
Ministry has seasons of abundance and seasons of stretching. But in each one, God provides exactly what’s needed—wisdom, strength, creativity, people, even rest. When you look back, you can trace His faithfulness. Gratitude grows when we recognize that ministry isn’t something we carry on our own; God carries us.
7. The Calling God Has Placed on Your Life
Above all, be grateful that God chose you to serve in this space. Your gifts, personality, experiences, and passions uniquely equip you to lead kids toward Jesus. Even on hard days, your calling is a reminder that God sees you, loves you, and wants to work through you.
As you move through this season, take time to pause and give thanks. Gratitude doesn’t erase the challenges of ministry, but it does lift your eyes to the God who sustains you—and who delights in every step you take to lead His little ones well.
