We’re already halfway through 2024, and it’s the perfect time for a mid-year checkup. One of the most crucial aspects of your ministry is how well you’re caring for your volunteers. Your volunteers are the backbone of your children's ministry; without their dedication and hard work, it would be impossible to reach and teach the kids in your community effectively.
Caring for your volunteers isn’t just about keeping them happy; it’s about creating an environment where they feel valued, supported, and equipped to serve. When volunteers feel appreciated and nurtured, they’re more likely to stay committed, perform better, and have a positive impact on the children they’re ministering to. Mid-year is an excellent opportunity to evaluate how well you’re doing in this area and to make any necessary adjustments to ensure your volunteers are thriving.
Here are 10 questions to help you assess how well you’re caring for your volunteers:
1. Do you regularly express appreciation for your volunteers?
2. Are you providing adequate training and resources to help them succeed?
3. Do you check in with your volunteers to see how they’re doing personally and in their roles?
4. Are you creating opportunities for volunteers to connect and build relationships with each other?
5. Do you have a system in place to give and receive feedback from your volunteers?
6. Are you aware of and accommodating any special needs or circumstances your volunteers might have?
7. Do you offer opportunities for volunteers to grow and take on new challenges?
8. Are you recognizing and celebrating the achievements and milestones of your volunteers?
9. Do you have a plan to address volunteer burnout and provide support when needed?
10. Are you praying for and with your volunteers regularly?
Taking the time to honestly answer these questions can provide valuable insights into how well you’re supporting your team and highlight areas where you can improve. Remember, investing in your volunteers is investing in the future of your ministry.
