Social media isn’t just for trendy influencers and viral dances—it’s an incredible tool for your kids’ ministry! Whether you're looking to engage families in your church or welcome new ones, the right approach to social media can make a huge difference.

As a ministry consultant, I’ve worked with many churches to improve their social media engagement, and I’ve seen firsthand how small changes can create big connections. Here are four simple ways to use your platforms more effectively and build stronger relationships with families.

1. Be Consistent and Intentional

Families are busy, and if they don’t see your content regularly, they’ll forget to look for it! Consistency builds trust and keeps your ministry top-of-mind. Whether you post three times a week or once a day, set a schedule and stick with it.

And don’t just post for the sake of posting—be intentional! Share encouraging Bible verses, upcoming events, parent resources, and glimpses into what kids are learning on Sundays.

2. Showcase the Heart of Your Ministry

People connect with people, not just information. Let your church families (and potential new ones) see the joy, love, and purpose behind your ministry. Post pictures and videos of kids engaged in worship, fun activities, and acts of service. Share testimonies from parents, volunteers, or even kids about how God is working in their lives. When families see the impact of your ministry, they’ll want to be part of it!

3. Engage, Don’t Just Inform

Social media is about connection, not just announcements. Instead of only posting event details, create conversations! Ask fun, faith-based questions that parents can discuss with their kids. Use polls, Q&A features, and interactive posts to encourage engagement. Respond to comments and messages in a timely manner. The more people interact with your content, the more likely it is to be seen by others!

4. Use Video to Build Community

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth even more! Short, engaging videos help families feel connected to your ministry. Try a quick “Sunday Recap” video highlighting the key lesson from kids’ church, a “Meet the Leaders” clip to introduce volunteers, or a behind-the-scenes look at an upcoming event. Even a simple “We’re praying for your family this week!” video can make a big impact.

At its core, social media isn’t just about promotion—it’s about ministering to families where they already are. When you use it intentionally, showcase your ministry’s heart, engage with people, and utilize video, you create a welcoming space where families can grow in faith and feel connected.
