What Went Well? 5 Things to Evaluate Your Easter Ministry

The KidzMatter Blog/What Went Well? 5 Things to Evaluate Your Easter Ministry

Easter Sunday is one of the biggest and most meaningful days in children’s ministry. You’ve prayed, planned, recruited, decorated, and poured your heart into creating an environment where kids and families can encounter the hope of Jesus. And then… It’s over.

Before you jump straight into the next thing, take time to pause and evaluate. A simple, intentional debrief can help you celebrate what God did and make your ministry even stronger moving forward. Here are five key areas to reflect on after Easter:

1. First Impressions

Think about the experience from a guest family’s perspective.

• Was check-in smooth and welcoming?
• Were signs clear and easy to follow?
• Did families feel noticed and valued right away?

First impressions matter, especially on a high-attendance Sunday like Easter. If something felt confusing or overwhelming, note it now while it’s fresh. Small adjustments here can make a big difference next time.

2. Volunteer Experience

Your team carried a lot this weekend. How did it go for them?

• Did volunteers feel prepared and supported?
• Were roles clearly defined?
• Did anyone seem overwhelmed or underutilized?

Take note of both wins and pain points. Easter often reveals gaps in communication or training that aren’t as obvious on a typical Sunday. Following up with a quick “What worked? What didn’t?” conversation can provide valuable insight.

3. Gospel Clarity

At the heart of Easter is the message of Jesus’ resurrection.

• Was the Gospel clearly presented in an age-appropriate way?
• Did kids understand the main point?
• Were there moments for response or reflection?

This isn’t about perfection; it’s about ensuring that the most important message wasn’t lost in the excitement. Celebrate the ways kids engaged and consider how you can reinforce that message in the coming weeks.

4. Engagement and Flow

Easter services often have more elements than usual. That can be great, but also challenging.

• Did the schedule flow smoothly?
• Were there moments where kids disengaged?
• Did transitions feel natural or rushed?

Pay attention to how kids responded. Engagement is a great indicator of what connected and what didn’t. Streamlining a few elements next time could make the entire experience more impactful.

5. Guest Follow-Up

Easter likely brought new families through your doors. What happens next matters just as much as Sunday itself.

• Did you collect accurate contact information?
• Do you have a plan to follow up this week?
• How will you invite families back?

The goal isn’t just a great event, it’s a lasting connection. A simple email, text, or handwritten note can go a long way in helping a first-time visit turn into a returning family.

Don’t Skip the Celebration

As you evaluate, don’t forget to celebrate. Share stories of what God did. Thank your volunteers. Recognize the moments that mattered, because they did.

Evaluation isn’t about being critical. It’s about being faithful stewards of what God has entrusted to you. When you take time to reflect on what went well, you’re not just improving a program; you’re strengthening your ministry for the long run.
